Kindergarten News

This week we will be learning the letter Xx as in fox and x-ray.  Students will go on a treasure hunt throughout the building to find the “X” that marks the spot of their hidden treasure!  How exciting!!!  There will be NO Show and Tell.

In Reading we will begin the story, One Little Mouse by Dori Chaconas.  We ended up not getting to it this week.  The genre is rhyming, and we will focus on the comprehension skill cause and effect.  This week we will review the /l/ sound and connect it with the letter Ll.

Monday, we will be continuing with learning about decomposing numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way.

Wordlist # 15 should be in your child’s folder to practice this week.  Remember that I am not sending even numbered wordlists home, or ones that I think the children should be able to handle on their own.  I tested wordlist # 13 this week, and if your child had trouble with a lot of the words, you can practice it at home, and I will retest them next week.

Starting sometime next week we will begin testing for the 3rd marking period.  Please help your child prepare by reviewing all the letters and their sounds that we learned in phonics, blending sounds to read words, practice high frequency words and sight words, practice rhyming words, practice counting to 100, identifying numbers 0-

30, identifying all letters of the alphabet, author, illustrator, and main ideas in a story.

We had a jolly time telling jokes on Friday, and we are going to begin book #3 in the Magic Tree House” book.
